Community Nurses

If you are housebound and need home nursing (including bathing) the surgery will make arrangements for a district nurse to call.
Patients discharged from hospital but still requiring home nursing have the nurse arranged for them by the hospital.

Health Visitors

The health visitors led by Mrs Zena Baxter have an office in the Abbey Road Clinic. They are nurses who give advice on healthcare, particularly for expectant mothers, small children, the elderly and the handicapped. They help run our check-up and immunisation clinics. If you have a problem affecting your health they can put you in touch with sources of help. You can contact them on weekdays around 9.30a.m. and 4.30p.m. by phoning 01253 651585.

Attached Staff

DIETICIAN
Basic dietary advice is available at Highfield Surgery mostly provided by the nurses and health visitors. For more complex conditions a referral can be made to the local NHS dietitian service.
MENTAL HEALTH
All aspects of mental health care are provided after consultations with the doctor at Highfield Surgery. A Primary Care Mental Health Worker is based in the surgery and provides one-to-one assessment and treatment for patients referred by other members of the practice team. She uses "talking therapies" to complement treatment from the doctors, and can put you in touch with a wide range of sources of further help.
More complex care is provided from The Beeches Community Mental Health Team on Central Drive. This includes consultant assessment, help from community psychiatric nurses and a range of psychological therapies.
